SOCIAL DRIVE: Northern Loop Drive, 7th August 2016

CRISP AIR & COLD STARTS: UP BEFORE THE SUNRISE

It was night before our postponed Northern Loop Drive. Fifty four Porsche owners from in and around Sydney dreaming of the twists and turns that lay ahead. Almost like a child on the night before Christmas, waking up every few hours before the alarm clock even has a chance to go off. Darkness and a sub ten degrees Celsius morning waiting outside, but it’s time, time to start our engines and head to the little slab of concrete at the foot of the Old Pacific Highway in Berowra.

A SLAB OF CONCRETE TO MEET: COFFEE & DRIVER BRIEFING

David from Driving Adventures and our very own head poncho Grant were first to arrive at the destination, followed by the mobile coffee truck - Perfect! Not much long after the coffee van had set up the drivers began to arrive, as always there was 1, 2, 5, 6… before you knew it 30, 31 and by 7:00am there was 53 beautiful Porsches parked. As the coffee truck pumped out order after order David called everyone in close for a quick driver briefing and handed out a map of the selected route.

TIME FOR TWISTS & TURNS: LET’S DRIVE!

As the last words were spoken in the driver briefing our very own Sergio jumped in the car and headed ahead to capture some photos of the convoy. Waiting at the helicopter pad only a few kilometres down the road, it only took a few minutes for the Porsches to start rolling by. Smile after smile and Porsche after Porsche – a sight that will never become old, as timeless as the cars themselves.

QUICK PIT STOP: YARRAMALONG

As things happen unfortunately a few people got lost, but it’s all good when all the roads available are as scenic and enjoyable as the rest. We pulled over in Yarramalong to await the convoy’s arrival, slowly but surely all the drivers began to roll into the town. One by one we parked and slowly filled the main street of this tiny and beautiful town. Legs were stretched, stories were told and after a few minutes the convoy jumped back in the cars en route to our final destination, the Gosford Classic Car Museum.

FINAL DESTINATION: GOSFORD CLASSIC CAR MUSEUM

As we roll into the Gosford Classic Car Museum the tone is set, what is this place? It’s huge. It’s actually a past Bunnings now renovated to house a collection of desirable and rare classic cars. In short, this place was heaven. As we take over the majority of the car park and head inside we begin to see glimpses of the cars within, Porsche being the first marque closest to the entry. What a way to end a drive! An hour or so was spent walking through the many aisles of beautiful automotive glory.

What a day it was! A day where adults once again became children. A morning of all the five-senses being taken on a roller coaster ride and a memory we will not forget.
