Strong Start to Carrera Cup for Smollen

After a fraught qualifying session left him on the 21st spot of the grid for the start of the Albert Park round of the Australian Carrera Cup, Shane Smollen and the Autohaus Hamilton team put in a long weekend at the office to finish 13th outright.

Smollen managed to claw his way back through the field of Porsche 911 GT3s to climb six places in the first race, finishing 15th and putting his Autohaus Hamilton prepared Porsche in a strong starting position for race two. Race two saw him continuing his charge through the field, moving up to 12th for the start of the third race. The final race for the weekend was a bruiser, and Smollen spent it in the thick of the action. He came in at lucky 13th, with a few new love taps left on his 911 as a memento from his climb through the field at the Albert Park opener.
