Melbourne Road Trip: The Road Trip
BEFORE THE SUN RISES:
If you’ve driven the Hume from Sydney to Melbourne before you’ll know leaving before the sun rises always makes it that little bit easier. Allowing you to arrive in Melbourne in the early afternoon, compared too late into the night. Four in the morning was our starting time and with a quick stop for a full tank we hit the open road for 5 days of motoring in the Autohaus Hamilton 911 Group 4.
CRACK OF DAWN, SNOWCAPPED HILLS:
With about 300-350kms under our belt, the sunlight began to fill the sky and illuminate the horizon. To our surprise what we thought was some sort of light rain was actually SNOW! The snow-capped hills which surrounded the Hume made for a picture perfect moment, though our slightly more Sydney inspired winter clothing let the negative temperature wind chill our bones as we pulled over for a photo. Needless to say the engine was loving these cold temperatures!
CROSSING THE BORDER:
Another few hours passed and the Group 4 was loving every bit of it, so as the boarder got closer we thought it would be good to quickly pull over and stretch the legs before hitting Victorian roads. To our surprise the morning’s wild weather had left aerodynamic trails across the car, like art!
HOME AWAY FROM HOME:
The kilometres continued tick over and our destination slowly became only moments away. A beautiful Wednesday afternoon greeted us whilst driving through the streets of Melbourne’s CBD. Crowds of people snapping off photos, pointing and smiling at the loud, low and wide 911.
What a drive and the Group 4 didn’t miss a beat, that’s our girl.
THINKING ABOUT CROSSING THE BOARDER IN YOUR PORSCHE?
There’s heaps of great driving roads to get across the border, whether you head in-land and take back roads from Thredbo or take the coastal road and follow Australia’s east coast all the way south. Here’s some information on organising your own road trip: Driving Australia
